Essential Oils for Anxiety

By | Uncategorized

Essential oils are nothing new. These natural essences have been around forever dating back to Biblical times as extracts from the root, bark, leaves, or flowers of plants. In fact, they have been mentioned when wise men came bearing gifts of frankincense and myrrh for the baby Jesus. While essential oils are commonly used aromatherapy, it has been longed used in the embalming process and was used to help treat soldiers during World War II — a time when medications were scarce.

Today with our busy lives and extreme pressure to have all things perfect, we are exceptionally susceptible to stress and anxiety. Essential oils can help.

Essential Oils for Anxiety

Here are some of the best essentials oils for anxiety:

1. Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia)

Lavender is commonly used for its calming and relaxing effect. It helps with inner peace, sleep, restlessness, irritability, panic attacks, nervous stomach, and general nervous tension.

2. Rose (Rosa damascena)

Rose as a fragrance brings comfort and warmth. The benefits of rose essential oil is it’s very settling to the emotional heart and perhaps the second most popular after lavender for relieving anxiety and depression, helping with panic attacks, grieving and shock.

3. Vetiver (Vetiveria zizanioides)

Vetiver oil has a tranquil, grounding and reassuring energy which is often used in trauma helping with self-awareness, calmness, and stabilization. A nervous system tonic, it decreases jitteriness and hypersensitivity and is also useful in panic attacks and shock.

4. Ylang Ylang (Cananga odorata)

This popular essential oil can also treat anxiety and depression due to its calming and uplifting effects. Ylang ylang helps with cheerfulness, courage, optimism and soothes fearfulness. It may calm heart agitation and nervous palpitations and is a moderately strong sedative, which can help with insomnia.

However, be careful when using ylang ylang, as it can be sensitizing or irritating to the skin; avoid using in conditions of low blood pressure.

5. Bergamot (Citrus bergamia)

Bergamot is commonly found in Earl Grey tea and has a distinctive floral taste and aroma. Bergamot oil is calming and often used to treat depression by providing energy; however, it can also help with insomnia induce relaxation and reduce agitation. This is another oil that you should exercise caution because it is photosensitizing meaning it can increase the risk of sunburn and rash. It is best to avoid use within 12 hours of sun exposure.

6. Frankincense (Boswellia carteri or boswella sacra)

Frankincense is great for treating depression and anxiety because it provides a calming and tranquil energy as well as spiritual grounding. In aromatherapy, it helps deepen meditation and quiet the mind.

How to Use Essential Oils for Anxiety

Essential oils can be used in three different ways: aromatherapy, ingestion or topically.

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy for anxiety is very popular because our sense of smell triggers powerful emotional responses. We process so much information through our sense of smell — in particular, in an area of the brain adjacent to the limbic region, according to “Freedom from Anxiety: A Holistic Approach to Emotional Well-Being” by Marcey Shapiro and Barbara Vivino. (14) This is the area of emotional processing and memory recall.

When the scent of an essential oil is inhaled, molecules enter the nasal cavities and stimulate a firing of mental response in the limbic system of the brain. These stimulants regulate stress or calming responses, such as heart rate, breathing patterns, production of hormones and blood pressure. Aromatherapy can be obtained by using it in a bath, as direct inhalations, hot water vapor, vaporizer or humidifier, fan, vent, perfume, cologne, or — one of my favorites — through aromatherapy diffusers.

Oral Application

Many essential oils can be ingested by the mouth; however, it is critical to make sure that the oils you use are safe and pure. Many oils on the market may be diluted or blended with synthetics that are unsafe for ingesting. The Food and Drug Administration has approved some essential oils generically for internal use and given them the generally recognized as safe (GRAS) designation for human consumption. (15)

The most effective way to consume them, according to “The Healing Intelligence of Essential Oils: The Science of Advanced Aromatherapy,” is to add a drop of oil in a glass of water or in a teaspoon with honey. (16) You can simply add a drop or two underneath the tongue. This is beneficial because the blood capillaries are so close to the surface of the tissue under the tongue, allowing them to pass more quickly into the bloodstream and travel to the different areas of the body where they’re needed. (17)

Other oral application options include capsules, adding a drop or two to your favorite beverage, making a tea, and cooking.

Topical Application

Many prefer topical uses of essential oils. Topical application is a process of placing an essential oil on the skin, hair, mouth, teeth, nails or mucous membranes of the body. When the oils touch the skin, they penetrate rapidly.

Since they are so potent, it is important to dilute and blend with a carrier oil, such as sweet almond, jojoba, olive, avocado or coconut oil. You can apply the blend directly to an affected area, on the bottoms of the feet, rims of the ears, using compresses, in baths or through massage.

Essential Oils Recipes for Anxiety

Easy Lavender Neck Rub

INGREDIENTS:

  • 3 drops pure lavender oil
  • 1 teaspoon fractionated coconut oil or almond oil

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Blend the lavender oil and coconut or almond oil in your palm and rub onto your neck for natural anxiety relief. You can also rub onto the bottoms of your feet. This is perfect for anytime or just before bed.

Risks of Essential Oils for Anxiety

Never ingest any essential oils or apply undiluted to the skin without proper training or medical supervision. It is critical to understand how best to use them. Always consult a specialist and test the area, proceeding with caution as they may react differently to different individuals, especially children and pregnant women.

I am Quitting Teaching

By | Uncategorized

alphabet, class, conceptualThere is a misguided notion that those who cannot find anything else to do well in life teach. People often look down on this profession as one that is selected afterthought that person realizes they cannot get employed elsewhere. That perception is both degrading and utterly untrue. Teachers are phenomenal human beings, highly intelligent and with a tremendous amount of practical skills that expands beyond their content area. It is very seldom that another profession wears as many hats as a teacher all before they can even begin to teach.

Yet, more and more teachers are willing and ready to walk away from the classroom. For one, our students are much more demanding and entitled than in previous years. They have less social skills due to the influx of social media and web-based communication and even less intrinsic motivation for academic knowledge. It is definitely not a figment of the imagination that it is indeed getting harder to teach since our students are coming to the classroom with even more problems. Once upon a time, we would just be concerned about home life. Now, we have the additional burden of wondering what our students have witnessed online and what is keeping them distracted. Even with all of that, the bar for achievement keeps rising and state assessments are asking all students to take the same test and past regardless of varying disabilities. The state assessments, despite what administration would say, dictate the procedures and environment for tested subjects.

It is no surprise then that every year teachers are given additional responsibilities with very few being taken away. bookcase, books, bookshopThat can be exhausting. Not only are teachers asked to put on a show daily to entertain/motivate their students, they are also asked to prepare for that performance on their own time which means neglecting their own children and loved ones in the process. Teachers have to come with their A-game every day and for each class period using different manipulatives, videos, tips, and tricks to get and keep students engaged. Yet, after all of that, it is extremely demotivating to walk in the room the next day with those students looking like a blank slate. They sit glaring at their phones with no pencil in sight and their demeanor is once again of no interest. It is not hard to understand why some teachers would leave doubting that they are making any significant difference in their students’ lives.

Still, there are those times that educators cherish: the student who usually looks as if he is not grasping the concept answering a question correctly or a note from a previous student thanking you for all you have done. These are the moments that keep teachers going despite all their other worries:

  • students showing up without supplies
  • students are not learning the concept
  • students intrinsic motivation
  • making a difference
  • behavior problems
  • special disabilities and IEPs
  • preparing for emergencies
  • micromanaging principal
  • impromptu observations
  • completing all the paperwork including the ones added that day
  • neglecting their own child to work on lesson plans
  • finding something more rewarding to do with their life

blackboard, board, chalkWhile some people believe that teachers teach because they have nothing better to do with their times, many actually do it because of their belief that education is the key to success. The belief that literacy opens up many doors. The belief that the skills learned in school can be applied in various settings that can enhance lifestyles and enlighten minds. Regardless of the disrespect, the overwork, and underpay, teachers return to the classroom day after day because they believe they can make a difference in the life of a student.

What is the Inspired Lifestyle?

In a world bombarded by information overload, life can become overly complicated with our very health and wellness goals. Still, living an inspired lifestyle means you make the most efforts in thinking your best thoughts, speaking your best words, doing your best deeds – creating your best habits daily. In essence, the inspired lifestyle simply means habitually taking the necessary steps to live your best life. beach, beachlife, bikini

Because every moment in life should be valued, the steps to an inspired lifestyle should be simple.

  • Eat Well. This right here is one of the most exhausting areas of most people’s lives. Since we are all busy and the food industry has riddled our streets with as many fast food choices that they could possibly fit in, it is so easy to just sit down and eat without thinking. Who wants to go through the tiresome task of figuring out what is the healthiest choice to eat? You go into a supermarket and have to be a researcher in order to actually figure out what you are eating. That can be exhausting. You choose to go vegan to avoid all the pesky hormones or other poisons that may be found in meat or just for you good conscience about killing animals, only to realize that even those products are misleading. Frustrating! Still, we can reduce much of this anxiety if we keep it simple. Simplicity is the operative word. Just remember, you can never go wrong eating unprocessed earth foods and drinking sufficient water.
  • Stay Active. This is another area that we have overcomplicated. Staying active does not mean exercising like an athlete or a bodybuilder. It means exactly what the words suggest: get up and move. If you can’t run, walk. Simply, increase your heart rate and elevate your mood. Now of course, if you want to reshape your body, it becomes necessary to learn specialized moves with a stricter regime and eating habits to get your desired look; however, a simple rule of thumb to maintain a healthy lifestyle is to eat well and stay active.
  • Laugh often. This cannot be emphasized enough. Laughing is simply good for the soul! As it has already been pointed out, life is far too complicated. Simplify your life by surrounding yourself with people who inspired you to see the brighter side of the rainbow. Listen, Men's White Button-up Dress Shirtthere is absolutely no reason to surround yourself with the dull and boring. While some people are completely comfortable living a miserable life, you do not have to allow them to suck you dry. Instead, gravitate to those who contribute to your bliss. Laugh a little. In fact, get at least one hearty belly laugh in a day. You will be surprised what it will do for your health and wellness. If that person or your group of buddies make you feel like you are insignificant, lose them! You are under no obligation to remain loyal to those who belittle you. You are worthy of fun and a good time! Travel more, visit a museum, a concert, a botanical garden, watching a movie, drinking a glass of red wine, do what it takes to facilitates your healthy happy without waiting on validation from a crowd.
  • Sex purposefully. Sex is a wonderful activity. While it does not burn as many calories as some of us may hope, it is a great way to release tension with even more additional and amazing benefits. Ask anybody who has a healthy sex life. In fact, observe their behaviors. Watch how their skin glows; their attitude and “swagger”. Watch…Healthy sex is not only a great exercise, it helps with everything from the outside in! Here is what a healthy sex life can do for you:
      • Helps Keep Your Immune System Humming
      • Boosts Your Libido
      • Improves Women’s Bladder Control
      • Lowers Your Blood Pressure
      • Counts as Exercise
      • Lowers Heart Attack Risk
      • Lessens Pain

Yoni Steaming Works By Supporting Your Body Through Its Natural Processes

Many reproductive challenges such as menstrual cramps and infertility are caused when there is an excess buildup of the uterine lining which was not shed in the previous cycles. Because this material is built up over time, the uterus and the muscles around it work excessively hard to shed it, often causing pain and fatigue. A yoni steam works by applying gentle heat, as well as moisture that carries medicinal plant oils, to the exterior tissues of the vagina (the tissue referred to as the vulva). The warmth and moisture increase circulation to the vulva, causing it to swell and expose the inner labial mucus membranes. These tissues are very porous and absorbent, allowing the bloodstream to pick up the medicinal oils and carry them into the inner reproductive system, including the uterus. There, they work to help the uterus cleanse and release what is built up in its lining, ensuring that the next cycle is easy and pain-free, helping an egg to implant, and reducing other uterine abnormalities. The result is a healthier, more pleasant cycle and a more connected woman.

Yoni Cleanse At Home

A yoni steam is a simple and accessible practice for any woman to do at home. It involves placing a pot of hot water and aromatic herbs under a seat with a hole in it, disrobing from the waist down, and sitting over the steam for about 30 minutes while the steam gently permeates the skin.

Yoni Steaming Will Change Your Life, As It Has For Thousands Of Women

Yoni steaming will really change the way you feel. Women experience life-changing benefits as a result of yoni steaming, and you can do it from the comfort of your own home.

For you at home yoni cleanse, you will need a pot that can fit in your toilet. This will be used specifically for your routine yoni cleanse and two towels: a large thick towel and an average size one. You will be sitting for about 30 minutes, so this is a great time to just get reconnected with your body. Diffusing essential oils while listening to meditative music is recommended. You may also find solace in sitting in absolute silence.

Directions

  • Bring water to a boil
  • Add Yoni Herbal Blend
  • Put average size towel under the lid of towel (this will be used to keep some of the steam off your legs)
  • Sit with the larger towel covering your lower body so that the steam can permeate the exterior of your vagina

Yoni Steam Will Change Your Life!

Yoni steaming is about more than uterine health, and it is certainly more than a beauty treatment. The practice brings a reconnection to the female body and to the wisdom of plant medicine. It is an opportunity for women to celebrate and cherish our bodies, and learn to enjoy our wombs as the beautiful, sacred center from which we radiate our capacity to change the world. Yoni steaming is also about women taking back ownership of our personal health, and utilizing our intuition, as well as gifts from the Earth, to support and nourish our well-being. This is also about trusting the wisdom of generations of women, elevating their perspectives as not only valid but integral to our health.

What is so Important About Education?

By | Uncategorized

We often tell children to stay in school, pay attention, get good grades, but what is really so important about education?

What is Education?

Education should not be limited to just what happens in a classroom. Learning can take place anywhere. Still, a formal education has its place – a significant place, in fact. Education comes from the latin root, educaor, which today stands to mean the process of receiving or giving systematic instruction, especially at a school or university. Education can also be defined as an enlightening experience. This definition is a favorite. It needs no specific space, location or singular educator. School-aged children may not value or even understand what they are learning at the time but maturation tends to shed some well-needed light on its importance.

Here are a few adult responses to the importance of education:
“Learning is an ability you exercise…the mind needs to workout”.

“For me, [a degree] wasn’t important rather a goal I had for a few decades that I never accomplished. I do, however, feel that my newly obtained degree coupled with my experience will yield more opportunities for advancement in management roles and pay. I welcome either.”

“Education expands the mind and soul. Lending to knowledge and new opportunities. No one can grow progressively without education. Just have to be mindful of learning fruitful truths instead of useless facts”

“Teaches you to acquire information and utilize it. Also to study and research.”

Privilege in Education

As an educator in an ever-developing world, there seems to be a gradual decrease in the value of education in western society. It would also appear that those who could benefit the most from schooling are viewing school it as an unnecessary nuisance rather than an opportunity to alter the outcome of their lives. Although parents may tell their children that they should get an education, there is very little follow through at home, and its value is rarely observed in their everyday behaviors. This lack of interest can be seen in the overall conduct of students who feel they are forced to be in an establishment that they would rather not be in. When a group of tenth graders was asked if the government should force students to attend school, there answers varied. On one hand, they believe students should not be forced because those who do not want to learn, create unwanted issues in the classroom that interferes with others learning. On the other, they thought it was significant that students were forced to exposed them to information that could potential given them a better chance of experiencing success in later life.

It is heartbreaking to observe students who are given the resources they need to learn completely waste. How could a child who attends public school in America not have a basic education when children in Afghanistan are enduring treacherous situations to attend school? While resources vary from state to state and district to district, it is fair to estimate that most public schools in the states are far better than those, in say, Burundi. In order for our students to really grasp the value in what they have, they must be exposed to what “underprivelege” looks like. This experience has to be simulated for them to understand their own privilege.

The same group of juniors and a set of seniors were shown a documentary on PBS that addressed how education changed the lives of children in impoverished or war-ridden situations. Seeing what children much younger than they had to endure in order to acquire basic reading, writing, and arithmetic helped them to put their own learning into perspective.

Man in Black and White Polo Shirt Beside Writing Board

Students are so easily distracted by their phones.

Can you imagine the face of a student who once walked for miles hungry to get to school entering a school in America where they could not learn because their teacher is working tirelessly to get unwilling students to comply? Do you know how devastating that reality would be when they discover that everyone does not place the same value on formal instruction? That is a rude awakening.

From an outsider point of view, it would appear that children in America are spoilt with the good fortune of supplies and convenience while others in nearby countries are dying to just sit in an adequate facility to learn. Many of our students are instead bombarded with laptops, Chromebooks, cell phones, latest gears, high tech classrooms, highly qualified educators, a bus system, sanitary environment, and lunch provided by the school which is apparently a distraction to their education. Our students have no idea that children like Malala Yousafzai (Diary of Pakistani Schoolgirl) are being threatened for simply deciding to learn. So, then the question arises, What is so important about education, anyway.

How does Education Change Lifes?

While western education has its flaws, student motivation is top of the list of challenges. Schools are seeing an increase in apathy amongst students – “indifference,” or “lack of emotional connection.” Some blame this deadening behavior on the rise in state assessments. Nevertheless, if students can push through it all, there are significant gains to be made with all they have to learn. Education can significantly improve your life.

According to Global Partnership for Education, “Education reduces poverty, boosts economic growth and increases income. It increases a person’s chances of having a healthy life, reduces maternal deaths, and combats diseases such as HIV and AIDS. Education can promote gender equality, reduce child marriage, and promote peace.” How does education impact your way of life? Education is often seen as something you attain at the end of graduation, but all too often people neglect the process. It is the process of attaining life-changing skills that you find the value in learning. Even in a systematic institution – and it is strong ability to condition a person- that you can also find the necessary tools to define and refine your own life. Managing assignments in schools are not just about the grade for the gradebook, but about the lifelong habits being formed.

Challenges to Learning

Although there are students who are lacking an intrinsic desire to learn, there are valid variables that affect their motivation. Some people even in this world called “The American Dream” are living in “third world” situations. Educational policies and practices do not always consider that some students are houseless and without food. Yet, even with the flaws of this educational system, there are some provisions made such as school lunches and counselors.  The American Dream may be failing some but there are still others who are risking their lives to receive a fraction of it.

“Why not stop stop judging the fish on how they climb the tree.”
